Yoga is a conscious effort to train the mind to be fully present by controlling the body, breath and mind in one harmonious moment. As we bring our awareness to the breath, feeling the movement of air into and out of our chest, let every inhalation melt smoothly into every exhalation and vice versa; allow every inhalation to create internal spaciousness, and surrender your body to the infinite external space during exhalation. Proceeding on to asana practice, as we begin to move about on the mat, allow every corner of your body to receive equal attention from your consciousness.
The wondrous human body is comprised of hundreds of muscles. By compartmentalizing these hundreds of muscles to a handful of distinctive groups, and incorporating this understanding to our practice, we equip ourselves with the knowledge to be aware of our practice on the mat and gain better control over our movement as we flow from one posture to the next.
Come join me for an introduction to the various groups of muscles and flow along with this new knowledge, feeling every posture inside out.
